Hello there! My name is J. Paul Peszko, and I'm your host here at SoCal Tai Chi.
My involvement with martial arts began in the mid 70's when I was asked to write and direct a 30-minute documentary on Ted Vollrath entitled Let Us Live In Your World. Ted was a Koren War Vet who had lost both legs yet became an accomplished master of Okinawan Karate.
Subsequently, I became involved with Hun Gar Kung Fu in the early 80's and later entered a Zen Monastery. There I studied with a Qigong master who taught the Swimming Dragpm Qigong. In the late 80's, I relocated to Southern California where I worked as a screenwriter and story editor for an independent producer.
I continued to read, study and practice various forms of qigong. In the mid-90s, the gym where I was working out started a taiji class, and I was soon hooked. But then Life decided to toss me a blessing in disguise.
Learning that I had contracted prostate cancer, my practice of taiji, qigong and meditation intensified. I continued with the Yang form and also took up the Sun style. Training became a lifetime endeavor, adding more internal arts like Yiquan, Xingyiquan and Baguazhong. Working closely together, other insturctors and myself regularly experiment with different internal techniques for personal growth and to advance our training.
I hope you find information on this site that will both inspire and challenge you.
